Dave Olsen - Drums(435)862-6331Self taught in the beginning, Dave started listening to everything from Elvis Presley to The Beatles. His world was blown wide open when his brother brought home Led Zeppelin One. Loving Blues and heavy rock, John Bonham became an icon to respect-and to copy. Although rock and roll was the roots of his training, he spent many years playing jazz with his father, Marshall Olson. Because he was not old enough to be in ‘The Manhattan Club’ in Salt Lake City, Dave had to sneak in the front door in the shadow of his father to play there. Competing in the Reno Jazz festival was a real treat only to see the LA high school band had Louis Belson’s kid on drums and Doc Severinsen’s boy on lead trumpet. Needless to say they schooled the Utah band. Dave began teaching at Brighton Music along with lifelong friend, Steve Gustaveson, and that eventually turned into opening a large music store with its own stage and 7 studios to teach in. With many years of teaching behind him, Dave has developed a program that will show anyone how to play drums if they will practice. |
